We are searching for a new volunteer project coordinator for our European photo platform. After eight years of existing, we want to relaunch the platform and give it into the hands of a new generation of enthusiastic media makers.

The new team is free to change everything based on the following fundamentals:

  • Europe-wide platform for young photographers
  • exchange of photos between young media makers
  • the platform is open to experienced young photographers as well as newbies to learn and evolve
  • Support of creative common license

You should

  • have a vision for the future of the platform
  • be younger than 30 years
  • speak fluent english

Coordination tasks

  • analyse the existing community and draft a concept for the platform
  • cooperate with the development team to create the new platform
  • find a team of volunteers to run the platform (moderation, community management...)
  • represent and advertise the platform
  • organise contests on the platform together with European partners

We offer

  • support by programmers to develop the new platform
  • the freedom to operate
  • European cooperation with young media makers
  • an existing base of thousands of pictures and users

Cover European Employment Forum

Between 22 and 23 November journalists are invited to the European Employment Forum taking place in Brussels, Belgium

Do you want to cover one of the hottest social topics in Europe? The European Employment Forum and the European Youth Press are glad to offer 4 young journalists the opportunity to receive a press pass for the European Employment Forum taking place in Brussels on 22 and 23 November 2011. The materials produced by the young journalists will be published on the website of the event. Young journalists are free to publish them in other media outlets as well. The press passes will give young journalists access to the Conference, Focus Group and Exhibition Hall. Due to limited budgets there is no possibility to reimburse young journalists for the costs incurred while covering the event.

UNESCO is seeking nominations for UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2012

UNESCO invites Member States, as well as regional and international organizations and professional and non-governmental organizations to nominate candidates for next year’s UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize

 

Named in honour of Guillermo Cano Isaza, an assassinated Colombian journalist, the Prize is intended to honour a person, organization or institution that has made an outstanding contribution to the defence and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially when this has been achieved in the face of danger.
It is intended to reward journalists who have shown dedication in the name of freedom of expression and information, and to afford them the international recognition they deserve. Awarded annually, the Prize is marked by a ceremony and the winner is presented with the sum of US$25,000. 
Next year’s prize will be awarded on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, on 3 May 2012.

Nominations for the Prize should be submitted by filling out the form in English or French and sending it before 15 February 2012 by post or by email to:

Because we have a heart full of passion and a head full of ideas!

If you are a young  journalist interested in making an international career, EMAJ Magazine is the right place to start from!

From the beginning of 2010, EMAJ Magazine has brought you stories from the Middle East, North Africa and the EU under the slogan “Report news not prejudice”. We have been providing an objective viewpoint from the Mediterranean through an international platform that reaches a varied audience in English.

We focus on issues related to the European Union, Middle East and North Africa with a special regard to the relationship between the regions as well as human rights, intercultural dialogue and immigration. Together, but with different points of view, we have reported on the ship to Gaza, tackled the burqa ban in Europe, investigated the aftershock of the Wikileaks revelations in our respective countries, covered the different aspects of Ramadan in the EU, MENA and beyond and are currently closely following the revolutions in the Arab world.

EMAJ is produced by a network of around 40 young journalists from the EU and MENA. We want to grow and extend our networks across the three regions. If you are a young journalist, leader or opinion maker from our regions, join us. Drop us an mail at emajmagazine@gmail.com!

We may not offer you payment in the beginning but we hope one day soon we can grow and pay all our staff writers, freelancers and also proofreaders. We aspire to publish in several languages. Our hopes will come true through your contributions.

* Internships For Starters:

EMAJ team expects you to contribute at least 9 pieces for a 3-month period, that is 3 pieces per month.

We also give you EMAJ special certificates.

The most committed and involved from the previous internship network will be selected to continue with EMAJ team amongst whom you will have the opportunity to get more involved with EMAJ Organization and represent it in international platforms such as worldwide conferences and other international events. Opportunities never end! You can be part of exciting journalism projects!
