Rīgas Ekonomikas augstskolas Mediju studiju centrs sadarbībā ar Sorosa fondu – Latvija izsludina projektu konkursu „Jaunie mediji”

Posted at 22. December, 00:01 Uhr by EdgarSk with 0 comments

Konkursa rīkotāji aicina iesniegt projektus jaunu interneta mediju platformu veidošanai vai jau esošo attīstīšanai.

Konkursa mērķis ir stiprināt Latvijas žurnālistikas kvalitāti un veicināt inovatīvu risinājumu rašanos interneta medijos. Vienlaikus konkursa rīkotāji meklē projektus, kuru autori spēj piedāvāt spēcīgu ilgtermiņa attīstības plānu. Konkursa projektu kopējā summa – EUR 50 000.

Pēdējo gadu laikā mediji ne vien Latvijā, bet arī citviet pasaulē piedzīvojuši smagu krīzi. Brūk tradicionālo mediju finansēšanas modeļi, mainās mediju patērētāju paradumi. Meklējot jaunas mediju pastāvēšanas formas, aizvien lielāka uzmanība tiek pievērsta jaunām un eksperimentālām idejām, jo īpaši inovācijām interneta un mobilo tehnoloģiju vidē.

Latvijā papildus sarežģījumus augstāk minētajiem radījuši tādi apstākļi kā atsevišķu uzņēmēju un politiķu mēģinājumi ietekmēt mediju saturu, neskaidrā īpašnieku sistēma un mazais tirgus. Tāpēc SSE Riga Mediju studiju centrs ar Sorosa fonda – Latvija atbalstu īsteno projektu konkursu “Jaunie mediji”. Šī projektu konkursa mērķis ir veicināt jaunu ideju rašanos Latvijas mediju vidē, atbalstot veiksmīgāko un laikmetīgāko, Latvijai inovatīvāko risinājumu īstenošanu. Tajā pašā laikā šiem jaunajiem medijiem ir jābūt spējīgiem nest būtisku pienesumu Latvijas mediju telpā, strādāt, ievērojot žurnālistu ētikas pamatprincipus, un uzlabot kvalitatīvās žurnālistikas vidi. Ar projektu konkursa palīdzību tiks atbalstīti gan jau Latvijas mediju vidē strādājošie, gan tiks meklēti jauni, inovatīvi talanti.

IHECS offers a new Executive master in European Journalism in Brussels

Posted at 14. June, 14:58 Uhr by Krmen with 0 comments

IHECS, an official Brussels-based school of higher education, has decided to open a daytime executive master in European Journalism from September onwards.

On February 9th 2010, the International Press Association wrote an article titled "Brussels deserves its watchdogs".  The article refers to the dangerously decreasing number of journalists based in Brussels. In Brussels, there are now less than 900 journalists compared to 38 000 civil servants working at the European Commission, around 15 000 lobbyists and 751 Member of the European Parliament. Democracy is therefore at risk! Sadly, this slow disappearance of Brussels-based correspondents is not compensated enough by national coverage of the European Union.

There are many reasons; the current economic situation has deeply weakened the media sector; covering EU affairs is a complex task; maneuvers from the Commission to control the whole information flow etc. However, Brussels more than ever deserves its watchdogs!

In reaction to this situation, IHECS, an official Brussels-based school of higher education, has decided to open a daytime executive master in European Journalism from September onwards.

Lessons will run until April 2011. In April, May and June students will have to complete their end-of-course assignments. The group will be divided into smaller groups of three students. They will have to produce a written investigative piece with photos/illustrations.

Highlights of the master:

  • Workshops are given by recognised professional journalists from across Europe who combine first-class teaching with practical experience in the field.
  • Small group of students (20)
  • In the heart of Europe, close to EU institutions
  • Contacts with stakeholders
  • Numerous media projects
  • In-the-field investigations
  • Constant contact with professionals

For more details on the master and how to apply please go to European Journalism Master IHECS.
